It’s official. Our credit crunch is really a recession (I think that we had already noticed!and I haven't heard one definitive answer on when the economy will grow again.
Its time to start thinking where to go for my mid-summer break this year. But, I need to curb my spending a bit more than normal. My pound isn’t worth much abroad anymore and flights don’t seem to be quite as reasonable as they used to be. In fact, I’m worried that if I book a flight at all the company will go bust before I’ve even had a chance to get to my destination (take me there first and leave me stranded in the tropics – that’s fine!).
I was chatting to a friend last night about my conundrum – explaining that I wanted a holiday full of FUN and laughter as I am fed up of hearing all about the credit crunch but at the same time I was living it so have to spend carefully. He suggested a holiday in Wales. Wales!! Really!? I was lead to believe that the weather spoiled the trip! And it’s full of sheep, leaks and daffodils and, and, and Wales holiday cottages and blokes named Dafydd!
‘It’s not unusual’ for the Welsh to be misrepresented in this fashion as the weather can be bad and there is a populus of gentlemen named Dafydd but there is too much to do that is fun. He kindly informed me that preparing for bad weather means that good weather is an added treat.
So, I decided to take a look for myself. I headed straight home, turned on my PC and started to search the web. I love youtube.com. It’s perfect for the lazy surfer.com – saves me reading stuff and I found the following video which is part of an advertising campaign for visitwales.co.uk suggesting things you can do in Wales.
Apparently you can go cycling, play at boats with kids, stay in a blue hotel (which looks like a toy – holiday cottages Wales stylie!) which is full of local stuff like the blankets, the art on the wall – even the beds. Rock climbing, and then throwing yourself off a cliff into water, drink welsh wine, eat crab and sausages (Welsh surf and turf – tee hee!) or locally produced food, cooked by a Michelin star chef. The list of stuff seems to go on forever.
OK, my conscience is telling me that I should give Wales a go as it helps the economy too. I’m taking the plunge. Are you.
