Published by ama July 2nd, 2009 in News. Tags: News. The Serengeti National Park has a mass of different animal species and is very beautiful. You will find the Serengeti in the North West of Tanzania. This place has so much for us to admire. Let’s take a look at some of the both the unknown and more famous points of Tanzania’s wonderland.
The word Serengeti is actually derived from the Maasai language meaning “endless plains”. The Maasai were a very strong and respected people that populated the Serengeti and when Europeans first visited these lands, they left the animals alone in the Serengeti to avoid aggravating the local people. The aptly named Serengeti spans a total area of about 30,000 kilometres squared.
The main event that the Serengeti is famous for is the Circular Migration. This Migration of the land mamals, occurs once every year from July to October. Over 2 million herbivores travel up through the Serengeti over the Mara River following the rains that will provide them with food and water. They continue up into the Masai Mara reserve, a popular destination for Kenya holidays and safaris.
The Serengeti also has its very own active volcano called Ol Doinyo Lengai. Becuase this volcano is still active, it has lava flows and ejects ash as well, this in turn damages plants and even prevents plant growth. You can find 550 Avifauna in the Serengeti, also called bird species.
If you are interested in going on a safari, this is one of the places that should be at the top of your list. Some people may want to see the Circular Migration, so you need to try and arrive at the ideal times, being august and September.
So why don’t you leave home and embark on an adventure on Tanzania holidays or Zambia holidays, you won’t be at all disappointed.
