Facts You Should Know about Spending Time In Inverness, Scotland
Published by ama March 30th, 2009 in News. Tags: News.Inverness, widely referred to as the capital city of the Highlands, was eventually granted city status in the year two thousand and one and at this moment in time is the only city in the Highlands of Scotland. Strangely the city has no legal boundaries which can create problems when estimating populations. The problems are exaggerated because of the fact that the population of Inverness is sharply increasing, the city has the United Kingdom’s highest growth rate. One fact we know for certain is that Inverness has a fairly content population, in 2008 the Telegraph took a survey of the quality of life in 189 cities in the UK and the city of Inverness came fifth. From this we can safely state that Inverness is a lovely place in which to spend some time and this is more than likely one of the reasons which make Inverness amazingly popular with tourists. Crucially there is a great deal of Inverness bed & breakfast accommodations with the majority being available to book online.
Inverness is also frequently referred to as the gateway to the Scottish Highlands for the obvious fact that it is the best place to make the most of the Highland public transport system and a large number of visitor attractions are relatively easy to reach. Probably the best way to get to them is via an organized bus tour or day trip. There are a few organizations visiting places such as, Urquart Castle, Culloden or Loch Ness or for the more adventurous visitor it is possible to visit such places as John O’Groats on a days round trip. There are also a few city tours, such as those run by City Sightseeing.
A small amount of tourists choose to stay in 2 locations in the Scottish Highlands as an example Inverness and, later, Fort William. Fort William is immensely popular with sports men and women especially hill walkers, ramblers and mountaineers who get their thrills reaching the summit of Ben Nevis which is only a short distance from the town. Similar to Inverness bed & breakfast in Fort William and rather like other bed and breakfast in Scotland it is always not very expensive, superb value for money and very clean, tidy and comfortable with world class hospitality.
An important fact to remember is that Inverness’s airport is, about, 7 miles east of the city at Dalcross. It is possible hail a cab or catch a bus to the small and busy airport which is fairly cheap. If you will benefit from using a map of the area then you will discover that they are free at the tourist office, which is on Castle Wynd. While you are in Inverness you should remember to visit Inverness Castle, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, the ’stone of tubs’ and Mercat Cross especially the Castle Garrison Encounter, an enjoyable interactive experience.
